Tonight after my daughter rushed through my penguin games and activities (not because they were too easy, but well, she was just not in the mood! See previous post for more details) we had time for one jar activity. She pulled out Using a Spoon to Transfer Objects. Sounds easy enough! Grabbed some spoons, 2 bowls, and some objects (buttons, pom poms, and shiny gold jingle bells).
I showed her how to scoop an object out of one bowl, carefully hold the spoon, and then dump into another bowl. I had three sizes of spoons to allow her to use one that was most comfortable for her. We also played a relay type game where she scooped up a bell with her spoon and carefully walked down the hall to place it in the second bowl.
It was hilarious to watch her walking- she hunched over and walked very slowly... she was trying so hard to be careful! And she did pretty good- until she caught sight of a binkie and then all was lost on the game front.... all in all, a really good experience and I am happy to scratch this practical life activity off my learning checklist!Happy TEACHing!

you are so awesome! Turning it into a game is a great idea...always seems to get my kids more interested when we make it a game!
ReplyDeleteTaking the bell in the spoon down the hall is such a fun twist. We have the binkie love around here, too. Sigh.
