- itty bitty bookworm- this will be our most structured learning time of the day. I will be starting in September and can hardly wait! I do know that I will have to modify this curriculum to meet the needs of my little miss smarty pants!
- montessori learning based activities- I am not sure yet how I will implement this.... unfortunately it is taking the back burner until I figure something out.
- religious learning (weekly lesson from Nursery Manual) as well as reading scriptures daily with mommy
- nursery rhymes- maybe have a "rhyme time" every day where we will repeat favorite rhymes, or learn a new one... I will be printing off the Nursery Rhymes I found here and placing them in a binder that my daughter can sit and read whenever! I am thinking about doing these on the days we aren't doing religious teaching...
- theme based learning ideas- such as 5 senses, Feelings, 123's.... I would love to get a schedule for these- but as of right now.... there is none! I think up until Christmas we will just have a lot of the holiday themes (Halloween, thanksgiving, etc) with lessons that she might be needing or that come up through our play.
- review of ABC's, Colors, Shapes- just in everyday play. not ready for a letter of the week yet. I will be starting that when she is more comfortable writing. My daughter is obsessed with the alphabet and we spend lots of time during free play singing the ABC song or playing with her Leap Frog Alphabet Magnet Set.
- added large motor skill activities ('cuz thats what she loves)- nothing scheduled (as of yet)- just more a reminder to myself to add these activities throughout the day since I am not a sporty momma! but i want more days at the park, more walks on the nature trail, more visits to the duck pond... that is what childhood is about and I don't want to rob that of my daughter 'cuz I am too giddy for lesson planning.
- music time whether its playing an instrument, singing, or dancing- music is a big part of our family and I want to instill that in my daughter! I would like to work on some basics with her- lots of clapping exercises to give her a good sense of rhythm which will help later on when she starts piano lessons.
- art time- whether open ended or coloring a picture, there can never be too much art!
One more week.... and then I am forcing myself to have my days organized!
Happy Planning and Teaching!!!

Looks like you have a great outline so far. Way to go with your planning!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great!! I'm so interested in hearing your take on the Itty Bitty Bookworm curriculum! It sounds awesome and I'm really starting to get the itch to purchase it.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm totally the same way about theme-based learning; I'd love to establish some sort of schedule but I keep finding that MADDIE, not me, really dictates what we learn (like, we recently revisited Very Hungry Caterpillar because she showed such interest; I wouldn't have planned it that way). And, I REALLY want to start more religious learning. It's the one thing that we're really lacking and I'm determined to pick it up.
This is long. I should just email you, huh? Ha!
thanks for making the potty training giveaway button! cute blog BTW
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely coming back here to check this out but for now I'm here to thank you for making the super cute button for OJ for the Potty Training Giveaway - it's so cute!
ReplyDeleteI am planning to homeschool my kids (they're only 2 and 1 month now) so I'll be back!
It sounds like a solid plan, but I am a little surprised that you want to tie letter of the week with writing. I am not sure how old Boo is - I think she is closer to two? You could easily do a pass on letters (or even sounds) between 2 and 3 with project-based learning, and then revisit it yet again when she is more ready for writing. Anna is not writing anything yet, but her reading truly starts to emerge, even though she is not three yet. Something to think about :)
ReplyDeleteI already am ADDICTED to your blog. I've already made my own color tablets. But also, thanks for the potty training button! :)
ReplyDeleteSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO JEALOUS that you won IBBW *sigh*

Yes... my husband is finishing up is degree in Math- he has taken time off to get experience in his chosen field of study (computer programming/ system administrating) and decided to finish up his degree cuz his employer will cover the expenses... he has been in school 2 days and i am already worn out from the lack of time he has to spend with me and boo!
ReplyDeleteWhen you read scriptures with your little one, how does that work? I have been wanting to start including my 19 month old in my morning scripture study, but I don't know where to start. Do I just tie him to the table to keep him still, stick a cracker in his mouth to keep him quiet and then read a few verses? ;)
